NutriNavi

NutriNavi is a mobile application designed to support users in managing their nutrition more consciously. The app focuses on helping individuals track their meals, understand their eating patterns, and receive personalized suggestions aligned with their health goals. The core idea was to create a simple, modern, and user-friendly experience that makes nutrition tracking feel effortless and motivating.

Project Overview

NutriNavi delivers a comprehensive suite of features that transforms the way users manage their daily nutrition. The app’s core strength lies in its ability to make tracking both intuitive and insightful, guiding users toward healthier habits without overwhelming them.

The experience begins with effortless meal logging, where users record each meal in just a few taps—either by selecting from our curated database or adding custom entries. Immediately after entry, NutriNavi presents an in-depth nutritional breakdown, highlighting calories, macronutrients, and essential micronutrients so users can grasp their dietary balance at a glance. From there, the app generates goal-oriented recommendations tailored to individual objectives—whether it’s weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain—offering personalized suggestions that keep users motivated and on track.

Throughout the project, I was entrusted with the end-to-end UX/UI design and project coordination. I began by crafting a friendly yet professional brand identity, defining the logo, color palette, and typography to ensure a cohesive look and feel. Drawing on our user research, I translated insights into low-fidelity wireframes to validate core interactions, then refined these into high-fidelity mockups complete with micro-interactions and transitions that elevate the user experience. I mapped out the primary user journeys, collaborating closely with developers to align every design decision with technical feasibility. Finally, I organized and led usability testing sessions, gathering qualitative feedback to iterate rapidly—enhancing the onboarding flow, clarifying goals, and improving accessibility—so that NutriNavi emerged as a smooth, engaging, and truly user-centric application.

User Research

We started the project by conducting qualitative user interviews using a structured discussion guide. The goal was to better understand how people currently manage their nutrition and where they encounter difficulties. The insights revealed that users often feel overwhelmed by existing apps, which tend to be too complex or filled with unnecessary features. Many users expressed a need for a simpler, more focused solution that supports their goals without demanding too much time or effort.

User Personas

Based on the research, we developed three detailed personas that represent the core types of users NutriNavi aims to serve. These personas include a working professional with little time who wants to lose weight, a fitness-conscious user interested in tracking macros, and a parent looking to guide their family toward healthier habits. These user profiles were essential in shaping our design decisions and ensuring that the app would respond to specific, real-world needs.

Problem Definition & Goals

Through our Lean UX Canvas and market analysis, we identified a clear gap in the market: many nutrition apps are overloaded with data and lack true personalization. Users often abandon these apps due to complexity or because they don’t feel aligned with their goals. Our objective with NutriNavi was to create a solution that simplifies nutrition tracking while adapting to the user’s lifestyle. The focus was on delivering a clear, goal-oriented experience that keeps users motivated and engaged.

Prototyping

To bring our concept to life, we designed an interactive prototype using Figma. This prototype replicated the full user flow—from onboarding and setting goals to logging meals and reviewing progress. It allowed us to test the usability of the interface in realistic scenarios without developing the app itself. The prototype was essential for gathering early feedback, identifying friction points, and validating core functionalities before moving forward with development or higher-fidelity user testing.

User Testing

The prototype was tested with a group of target users who matched our personas. The majority found the experience intuitive and appreciated the visual simplicity of the interface. Feedback revealed that users felt more confident tracking their meals and less stressed compared to their experience with other apps. Some suggestions, such as improving the clarity of onboarding steps, were directly implemented into the next iteration.

Results & Impact

The user testing phase confirmed many of our design hypotheses. Most testers reported that NutriNavi was easier to use than their current app, and many indicated they would consider using it daily. The positive feedback validated our focus on simplicity, personalization, and goal alignment. It also gave us strong direction for the next development steps.

Future Improvements

Looking ahead, NutriNavi is set to evolve into a comprehensive health companion by introducing barcode scanning for instant meal logging. This feature will eliminate manual data entry, enabling users to scan packaged foods and automatically capture detailed nutritional information. As a result, the logging process becomes faster and far more accurate, encouraging consistent use and reducing entry errors.

Building on this, integrating with fitness wearables will allow NutriNavi to capture real-time activity data—such as steps, heart rate, and workout metrics—and merge it seamlessly with nutritional insights. By correlating exercise and intake, the app can offer more precise guidance, ensuring that recommendations reflect users’ actual energy expenditure and activity levels.

Finally, implementing AI-powered meal recommendations will take personalization to the next level. Leveraging machine learning, the app can analyze eating patterns, preferences, and progress over time to suggest recipes, portion sizes, and nutrient targets uniquely tailored to each user. This adaptive intelligence will keep recommendations relevant and motivating as users’ goals evolve.

Together, these strategic improvements will deepen user engagement, foster long-term habits, and position NutriNavi as a standout solution in the competitive digital wellness landscape.
